Our project is a work in progress: the life story of Lafcadio Hearn, a man who evolved from an eccentric scandal-mongering journalist in postbellum Cincinnati to a literary folk hero in Meiji-era Japan. Orphaned and homeless in youth, by life’s end he was the patriarch of a samurai family.
Lafcadio Hearn Is Not From Here is both a redemption story and a ghost story. Though Hearn’s life had a happy ending, he was haunted throughout by the dark forces with which he identified.
