An often- depicted subject by Hearn was suicides. In true "SCARE-HEAD" fashion, Hearn's eye focused on the lurid details of the scenes. One might imagine Hearn leaning in with his one 'good' eye, using his tiny monocular to take note of every splatter and stain.
These stories created a tragic undertone in his chronicles- the city was indeed filled with many sad stories, the result of betrayal, illness, bankruptcy, guilt and fear. On the police beat, Hearn followed various officers as they apprehended and cleaned up the aftermath of these deeds. |
